Beware of the mannequin
SCP-847 is a free horror adventure video game that has you facing off against a creepy living doll. Developed by GhostMasaki, this 3D indie psychological horror game is based on the popular web project, The SCP Foundation, and features one of its many scary anomalies.
Similar to SCP-087, SCP-847 only has one enemy monster you have to face. This makes for a pretty short game filled with tense scenes and disturbing jumpscares. However, take note that this game mostly plays out like a walking simulator, with little interaction required from you as you explore its haunted map.
Hunt down a dangerous anomaly
The SCP Foundation is an online community-based collaborative-fiction project that features the events and secret files of a fictional secret organization with the same name. It’s tasked with locating and containing anomalies called “SCPs” that defy the natural law of our world. The website itself is known for its scientific and academic writing style, depicting genres like horror and science fiction on its document-like pages.
One such SCP is SCP-847, which is a human female mannequin in disrepair. It can move on its own and display various behaviors depending on the gender of the humans near it. Unfortunately, it can become aggressive—and in the game, SCP-847, you must try to avoid it as you explore an abandoned-looking store. The controls here are few and easy enough, with E for interaction and F for your flashlight.
However, this also shows that the game is short and doesn’t really offer a lot of gameplay mechanics. You’ll mostly just be walking around to look for the various mechanisms and clues to progress through the map. There’s a bit of puzzling to do but it’s nothing too difficult to figure out. The atmosphere and sound design are amazing, however, and most of the jumpscares are from sudden realistic-sounding screams.
Creepy enough
All in all, the game SCP-847 is an interesting short indie game to try out if you want more SCP Foundation games. While there’s not much to it and it’s shorter than other SCP games, it still captures the horror elements that its monster represents. If you want more variety in the enemy creatures you can encounter, however, SCP: Containment Breach - Unity is a strong recommendation.
